Mood film, technical test or product demonstration?

These three types of image answer different questions. Label them clearly in a proposal so an attractive concept is not mistaken for evidence that a product or production method has been verified.

Review each type for its intended purpose

A mood reference communicates tone and atmosphere. A technical test explores a specific difficulty, such as movement or continuity. A product demonstration should follow an operation or fact supported by approved material.

Ask what each sample has established and what remains untested. A successful still frame cannot establish the consistency of a moving sequence, and a conceptual scene cannot prove product performance.

Finish with a clear decision record

Use four columns: image or shot, intended purpose, what has been verified, and what is still needed. Assign an owner to missing information or further tests.

This makes it easier to approve a direction without prematurely approving every implied detail. It also gives the production team a practical next step before committing to the full sequence.
